Is Rainbow Vista Right for You?
What is an "Active Retirement Community" anyway?

Rainbow Vista is an active retirement community. There are many different names that describe
an active retirement community such as; "Independent Living", "Senior Housing", "Senior
Apartments", and "Retirement Communities". In general, this type of housing is more
accommodating to older adults (55 and older) ie. more compact, with easier navigation around
the building as well as in the apartments. Outside maintenance and security is also provided.
Sometimes recreational social centers and laundry rooms are available onsite.

Do active retirement communities provide care?

Active retirement communities are intended only for active, healthy individuals that can take care
of their own activities of daily living just as they would in a regular home or an apartment.
Rainbow Vista does not provide caregivers or nurses and cannot assist with any activities of
daily living. Residents that move into an active retirement community may need assistance with
their own personal care in the future. At that point, they may decide to hire personal home care
workers to assist with their needs. If you need daily assistance, an Assisted Living Community
would be a better choice.

Why move to an active retirement community?

As we age we tend to slow down somewhat. It takes more effort to do the things we used to
do. Taking care of the yard and maintaining a house becomes quite a chore. Seniors often
become isolated after retirement since it is more difficult to get around. A wonderful solution to
this is to live among other seniors in an active retirement community where socializing with peers
and having activity options are available.

How social are you?

For people who enjoy moderate socialization, retirement communities may offer many
opportunities to foster friendships with people in your age group and common interests. Since
Rainbow Vista is an active LGBT community, there will be an even deeper connection with
other LGBT seniors with mutual interests. Like most active retirement communities we do not
have an activities director. However, residents can gather together to play chess or bridge, and
even go out to eat or form a hiking club or travel group.

So, should I move to Rainbow Vista?

I would like to live my retirement in a community with other senior gay men and women.
I am able to take care of all my activities of daily living (bathing, light housekeeping,
toileting, medication management, shopping, driving or using public transportation,
cooking, and mobility).
I am able to prepare meals for myself in a kitchenette-type setting.
I am moderately social and able to get along with others easily.
I bring in enough income to pay for rent, all meals, transportation, medical, and other
personal & social needs.
If I live out of state/area, I am willing to visit Rainbow Vista as a guest for a few days to
check out the area and see if the community is a right fit for everyone.

*If you checked off all the above statements as "yes", Rainbow Vista may be right for YOU!
